Creation of spatial maps of pollution

The resulting maps were created using geographic information systems. The Czech Republic was divided into squares of 1x1 km size and each square was assigned the value of environment variables. Using the decision tree it is possible to assign each square a value of POPs concentration and the results are visualized in the form of maps.

The maps should be interpreted with some caution; it is important to realize that the resolution is 1 km2 and represents the average concentration in the particular square. The real concentration can be further differentiated inside the squares at individual sites. There are also some sharp patterns visible on maps. It is a result of different resolutions of underlying maps of environmental variables available in GIS. Therefore, the maps are rather more useful for examination of different pattern in the whole area and estimation of POPs overall pools than for finding the "exact" concentration in a given place.
